Welcome back to my blog where I chat to you as if you were in my living room! Lucky you……
In my last two entries I talked to you about the importance of goal setting, writing down your goals and also ways to ‘re-program’ your subconscious so that its filled with glorious amounts of ‘can do’s’ and learning to eliminate the ‘I cant’s’. It works but like I have said before, it takes patience. So, have you been trying it? Really preserving? If you have, well done you because the more you practice positive mental attitude and belief in those goals you will never know your limits because limits will no longer dictate what you achieve or don’t achieve. The possibilities of achievement become endless!
Just so you know, I do practice what I preach. Having done the goals, the visualisation, the positive mental attitude – and this is ESPECIALLY important when life throws knocks at you – I have been lucky (well, luck is not really the reason as I’ve worked hard but I certainly feel lucky!) to have experienced so many highs in among my lows. My highs lie in so many areas but when it comes to my health and fitness goals, competing is where I can measure my success and reap the rewards of my hard work in both the kitchen and in the gym.
I’ve always loved competing. For years it was dancing, gymnastics, soccer, cricket and then eventually, bodybuilding, figure and fitness. I want to grow old and healthy, not age before my time and have struggles due to neglecting my health. I’m nearly forty and I’m achieving things in competition that many ladies 10-20 years younger than me would love to achieve. That is simply because I don’t set limits and I have a dream. That dream becomes a goal and that goal becomes hard work. The hard work turns into reality and that reality to me is being better in a competition than I was in the one previously, it means medals trophies, fun, passion, excitement and gives me the ability to grow stronger physically and mentally even if my body clock is moving forward. It also gives me the gift of being able to inspire others to know that age is just a number and we can keep achieving in life until we choose to stop. Remember that…achievement is a choice.
In my most recent competition on the 1st June 2013 I competed in the ‘Miss Galaxy Universe’ show and entered 3 different rounds. I entered the Fitness
Champion round which comprises of a gruelling fitness challenge, the Fitness Model round where I had to show off my physique in a bikini and also showcase in the glamorous ‘evening wear’ round and also did the ‘Showgirl’ category – this is a very new category for Galaxy which allows the competitor to perform on stage for 90 seconds a routine displaying core strength, performing various press ups, plyometrics and moves but most of all showing an unbelievably entertaining piece that makes the audience clap their hands, tap their feet and make them smile, or even better LAUGH!!! Competition can be serious but is is where it got FUN!
The one thing I love about the Miss Galaxy Universe show is that it is for women of all ages, shapes and body types. So long as you train hard and have worked hard to be your best then you are a totally worthy competitor for MGU. Last year they had around 52 competitors, this time it was nearly 100 so competition was tough! I set my goals, trained and dieted hard and did really well and was unbelievably pleased with my results. I got top five in Fitness Model getting 5th place, 2nd in Showgirl and 9th overall making me one of the Top 10 Supreme Galaxy Universe Champions!!!!!! As you can imagine I was over the moon. Luck? No. Hard work? Definitely!
The Showgirl round was my favourite. Embracing the ‘age does not matter’ attitude of the show I dressed up as ‘Galaxy Grandma’ complete with waddle onto stage, walking stick and dressing gown, breaking into a very funny and energetic routine to please the crowd and the judges. It worked!!!!!! The crowd cheered so loudly, I made a lot of people smile that day and most of all, I wanted to portray to all in the audience that age IS just a number. I want to be super active in my later years and I’m sure you do too but make sure you start now to make it easier as the years go by. It is never too late to start but the earlier the better. Starve off osteoporosis, bad backs, stiff joints, lack of fitness, heart disease and lack of important muscle tone. Don’t forget, muscles don’t just look good – they have an important function for our bodies and help to keep us healthy!
So the message today is that goals are everlasting, changing and evolving. So is your body. Set one goal, believe in it, achieve it then go for another. Exercise and nourish your body with good food and supplements. Vyofit and Vyomax ones of course! You don’t need to age before your time and you are never too old to improve, to be happy and most of all be healthy. Become who you really are, be happy and enjoy being you.
